Illinois has some of the top ranking universities in the nation. According to the US News & World Report National Universities Rankings 2011, three Illinois universities are ranked in the top 50 nationally: University of Chicago (9th), Northwestern University (12th), University of Illinois--Urbana-Champaign (47th).
